You can find a lot of exchange platforms for books, audio books, music, films and games online. A few examples:
tauschticket: You will need to pay 0,49€ for one item, in addition to the postage. The currency for exchange is the „Ticket“.
Tausch-Bücher: An exchange platform tree of charge, everything is settled in exchange points from 1-10.
Tauschgnom: Here, items are simply exchanged for others. You can also find „wandering books“ who circulate. Both modes of exchange are free.
Büchertreff: On this website you can exchange, sell or give away books.
Once a week children under 12 years can borrow books or listen to them being read aloud for free in the Bürgertreffpunkt Kinderbücher. There are books in German, Polish, Turkish and Russian language. You can come every Thursday from 3pm to 5pm.
In the city library can everyone who receives government benefits lend books, journals and magazines for a fee of 7.5€ per year. There is also the possibility to use 15 notebooks with internet there for free. There is free WiFi as well. Opening hours:

There are some points for a free book exchange in Kassel. A bookbox is at the corner Friedrich-Ebert-Straße/Querallee. A second one is at the Schwimmbadbrücke on the site of the Buga. One more is is in the Unterneustadt in the Blücherstraße at the corner Maulbeerplantage. A bookshelf is at the entrance bossebachstraße to the botanischen Garten after 200m meters on the right. A bookphonebox is at the campus of the University on the Holländischen Platz. At the entrance of the diaconia association Kirchditmold in the Zentgrafenstraße 174 is a free book exchange as well. In Oberzwehren there will be 2 place to exchange books, in Theodor-Haubach-Straße/next to the fountain and in Alt-Oberzwehren on the corner Rengershäuser Straße/Altenbaunaer Straße.In Wilhelmshöhe, you find one on the corner Wilhelmshöher Alle and Rolandstraße. A last one is in Niederzwehren at the corner Korbacher Straße/ Frankfurter Straße. In Harleshausen, there is a red bookcase at Ossenplatz. On all this places you can take and place books for free.
The library at the University Kassel can be used for free. To borrow as well as to use the online services you need a library card, which can be made after showing your ID card.
